Synopsis

STRAordenari is a docuseries exploring the daily lives of people with disabilities, capturing the “extra” in their ordinary. It features individuals who prove that disability isn’t a defining trait, but a natural part of human diversity. They are people who shatter stereotypes and overcome barriers to showcase their true talents and abilities.

Director’s notes

I am interested in the daily lives of “ordinary” people, meaning those who are not “celebrities”, to tell stories in which we can see ourselves reflected from an unexpected perspective. It is an opportunity to reflect on the circumstances, choices, and goals of the protagonists, which often mirror the obstacles and milestones that mark the existence of each of us. This has always been the essence of my commitment as a documentary filmmaker.

With STRAordenari, I aim to focus on disability by meeting individuals who, despite the weight of their various disabilities, have managed to achieve significant life goals through courage and passion. “Extra-ordinary” disabled people who serve as an example for us all. Able-bodied, differently-abled, disabled: political correctness is constantly evolving, chasing a definition that avoids offending different sensitivities. Yet, the difficulty of social acceptance for diversity remains. We are all different, and because of this, we have different abilities and dis-abilities.

Encountering and sharing “success stories” among those we define as “non-able”, especially within a community like Friuli, which is so small in number, represents for me a contribution to raising awareness and closing a gap that has no reason to exist.
